Government Announced Bharat Ratna for 03 More Eminent Personalities

The government announced Bharat Ratna for former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao. Agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan is also honoured, who played a key role in India’s ‘Green Revolution’, with the Bharat Ratna award.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was the fifth and Narasimha Rao the ninth Prime Minister of the country. Agricultural scientist Swaminathan is called the father of Green Revolution.

Bharat Ratna announced few days back

The government had already announced Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in the country, for veteran BJP politician Lal Krishna Advani and socialist icon and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, earlier this month. In this way, it has been announced that this honour will be given to 5 personalities this year. Including these three, a total of 53 people have been included in receiving this honour so far.

Chaudhary Charan Singh: A Farmers’ Leader

The late Chaudhary Charan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister of India, has been posthumously honoured Bharat Ratna for his strong commitment to helping farmers.

During his time in politics, including as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the home minister of India, he strongly supported farmers and played a big part in building the nation. His stand against the Emergency and his dedication to democracy have been praised as inspiring for the whole nation. Prime Minister Modi expressed pride in honouring Singh’s legacy and his remarkable contributions to the country.

In his tribute to Dr. MS Swaminathan, a key architect of the country’s ‘Green Revolution’, PM Modi said the government conferred the Bharat Ratna on the agricultural scientist in recognition of his monumental contributions to agriculture and farmers’ welfare.
