Know More about Temple Construction
In 2018, during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE, the official announcement about the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi was made. Later, in April 2019, the foundation stone-laying ceremony took place.
The temple has seven shikhars, with each one representing an Emirate of the UAE. It has special features like an amphitheater resembling the ghats of the Indian river Ganga, a recreated sand dune, and symbolic streams representing the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in India. The mandir also incorporates teachings from various cultures, highlighting the universal theme of love found across different religions.
The temple follows ancient Hindu shilpashastras and is considered an architectural wonder. Its exterior is constructed with pink sandstone from Rajasthan, while the interior is crafted with white marble by artisans from India.
Its Height is 108 feet. A total of 40,000 cubic feet marbles, 180,000 cubic feet sandstone & 1,800,000 bricks were used in the construction of this temple. Additionally, more than 300 sensors have been installed to monitor the temperature, pressure, stress, and seismic events of the structure. (As per data provided on official website of BAPS Mandir Abu Dhabi).
In the last three years, over 2,000 artisans from Gujarat and Rajasthan have carefully carved white marble pillars, displaying detailed designs of animals, musicians, and celestial elements. BAPS emphasized that the mandir follows eco-friendly practices by incorporating fly ash to replace a substantial part of cement in the concrete mix, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
